Texas Sheet Cake


Preparation time: 10 minutes
Bake time: 20 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes + time to cool
Yield: 32 servings

Cake:
  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1/4 C shortening
  • 1 C water
  • 4 T cocoa
  • 2 C sugar
  • 2 C flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 C buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Frosting:
  • 1/2 C butter, melted
  • 4 T cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4-6 T milk
  • 1 C powdered sugar, or enough to reach desired consistency.
Directions:
  1. In a saucepan combine butter, shortening, water, and cocoa and bring to a rapid boil.
  2. In a bowl, combine sugar and flour. Pour saucepan mixture over sugar and flour and mix well. 
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Beat well. 
  4. Pour into a greased 10x15x1-inch jelly-roll pan or cookie sheet with raised edges. 
  5. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes.
  6. For frosting: Combine all ingredients and frost cake while still warm.
